Shetland Chunky - Easy Rib Hat & Scarf (knit)

Classic and easy rib-pattern hat and scarf will be sure to please any guy. Hat sized to fit average man's head. Scarf measures approximately 6 x 50 inches (15 x 127 cm). Shown in Patons Shetland Chunky knit using size 6 mm (U.S. 10) needles.

MEASUREMENTS
Hat: To fit average man’s head.
Scarf: Approx 6 x 50 ins [15 x 127 cm].

MATERIALS
Patons Shetland Chunky (100 g/3.5 oz)
HAT
MC: (03042 Charcoal) 1 ball
A: (03430 Wine) 1 ball
SCARF
MC: (03042 Charcoal) 1 ball
A: (03430 Wine) 1 ball

Size 6 mm (U.S. 10) knitting needles for Hat. Pair of size 6 mm (U.S. 10) double pointed needles for Scarf or size needed to obtain tension.

TENSION
15 sts and 20 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS
HAT
With pair of needles and A, cast on 82 sts. Break A.
With MC, proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS). K2. *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P2. *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows until work from beg measures 7 ins [18 cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape top: 1st row: K2. *Work 2tog. Rib across 8 sts. Rep from * to end of row. 74 sts.
2nd and alt rows: Knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear.
3rd row: K2. *Work 2tog. Rib across 7 sts. Rep from * to end of row. 66 sts.
5th row: K2. *Work 2tog. Rib across 6 sts. Rep from * to end of row. 58 sts.
Cont in this manner, dec 8 sts every alt row to 10 sts.
Break yarn leaving a long end. Draw end through rem sts and fasten securely.
Sew back seam, reversing last 3 ins [7.5 cm] for turnback.

SCARF
Note: Work 2 rows on RS then 2 rows on WS.
With pair of double pointed needles and A, cast on 23 sts.
1st row: (RS). With MC, K2. (yf. Sl1wyif. yb. K3) 5 times. K1. Do not turn.
2nd row: (RS). With A, P1. (P3. yb. Sl1wyib. yf) 5 times. P2. Turn.
3rd row: (WS). With MC, P1. (P3. yb. Sl1wyib. yf) 5 times. P2. Do not turn.
4th row: (WS). With A, K2. (yf. Sl1wyif. yb. K3) 5 times. K1. Turn.
5th row: (RS). With MC, K2. (yf. Sl1wyif. yb. K3) 5 times. K1. Do not turn.
6th row: (RS). With A, P1. (P3. yb. Sl1wyib. yf) 5 times. P2. Turn.
7th row: (WS). With MC, P1. (P3. yb. Sl1wyib. yf) 5 times. P2. Do not turn.
