MATERIALS
Patons Classic Merino Wool (100 g/3.5 oz)
00202 (Aran) 2 balls

Sizes 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension. Cable needle. Zipper 12 ins [30.5 cm] long.

TENSION
20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

C6B = Slip next 3 stitches to cable needle and hold at back of work. K3, then K3 from cable needle.

Panel Pat A (worked over 20 sts).
1st row: (RS). (K6. P1) twice. K6.
2nd and alt rows: Knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear.
3rd row: (C6B. P1) twice. C6B.
5th and 7th rows: As 1st row.
8th row: As 2nd row.
These 8 rows form Panel Pat A.

FRONT and BACK (make alike).
Cast on 70 sts.
1st row: (RS). K26. P2. [(Inc 1 st in next st. K1) twice. P1] twice. (Inc 1 st in next st. K1) twice. P2. K26. 76 sts.
2nd row: P26. K2. (P6. K1) twice. P6. K2. P26.
3rd row: K26. P2. Work 1st row of Panel Pat A. P2. K26.

Panel Pat A is now in position.

Cont in pat until work from beg measures 10 ins [25.5 cm], ending with 8th row of Panel Pat A.

Shape strap: Next row: (RS). K16. Sl1. K1. psso. K2 (inside edge). Turn. Leave rem sts on a spare needle. 19 sts.
Work 9 rows even in stocking st.
Next row: Knit to last 4 sts. Sl1. K1. psso. K2.
**Rep last 10 rows 8 times more. 10 sts.
Cont even until handle measures 16 ins [40.5 cm], ending with a purl row. Cast off.**

With RS of work facing, cast off center 36 sts. K2 (including st on needle after cast off). K2tog. Knit to end of row. 19 sts.
Work 9 rows even in stocking st.
Next row: (RS). K2. K2tog. Knit to end of row. Work from ** to ** as given above.

FINISHING
With WS of Front and Back tog, sew bottom and side seams to tops of Straps. Sew cast off edges of Straps tog to form continuous strap. Sew inside edges of Straps tog, leaving an opening for zipper. Sew zipper in position.
