Classic Wool - Slippers (crochet)

Cozy crochet slippers with festive holly berries and leaves are an excellent project for your family, guests, and gifts. Sizes M-L (foot length 9-10 in). Shown in Patons Classic Wool crochet using size 4 mm (U.S. G or 6) and 5.5 mm (U.S. I or 9) hooks.

To fit foot length
Medium 9 ins [ 23 cm ]
Large 10 ins [ 25.5 cm ]

MATERIALS
Patons® Classic Wool (100 g / 3.5 oz)
Main Color (MC) (00240 Leaf Green)
Medium or Large 2 balls
Contrast A (00220 Bottle Green)
Medium or Large 1 ball
Contrast B (00230 Bright Red)
Medium or Large 1 ball

Sizes 4 mm (U.S. G or 6) and 5.5 mm (U.S. I or 9) crochet hooks or size needed to obtain tension.

TENSION
15 sc and 15 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with 4 mm crochet hook. 12 sc and 12 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with 5.5 mm crochet hook and 2 strands of yarn.

STITCH GLOSSARY
Yb = Bring yarn to back of work.
Yf = Bring yarn to front of work.
Sl1P = Slip next stitch purlwise.

INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are written for smaller size. If changes are necessary for larger size the instructions will be written thus ( ). When only one number is given, it applies to both sizes. For ease in working, circle all numbers pertaining to your size.

SOLE (make 4).
With 2 strands of MC and larger hook, ch 7 (9).
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. 6 (8) sc. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each sc to last sc. 2 sc in last sc. 8 (10) sts. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row until work from beg measures 4½ ins [11.5 cm], ending with RS row.
Next row: (WS). Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each sc to last sc. 2 sc in last sc. 10 (12) sts. Turn.
Next 2 rows: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each sc to last sc. 2 sc in last sc. 12 (14) sts. Turn.
Next 2 rows: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row until work from beg measures 8½ ins [21.5 cm], ending with a WS row.
Next row: (RS). Ch 1. Draw up a loop in each of first 2 sts. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – sc2tog made. 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sts. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn.
Rep last row until 4 sts rem. Fasten off.
With 2 strands of MC and larger hook, crochet 2 soles tog.

UPPER
With 2 strands of MC and larger hook, ch 48 (54).
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 47 (53) sts.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sc. 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sc. Sc2tog over last 2 sc. Turn. 45 (51) sts.

Shape instep: 4th row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 19 (22) sc. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Miss next sc. 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sts. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn. 41 (47) sts.
5th row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 17 (20) sc. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Miss next sc. 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sts. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn. 37 (43) sts.
6th row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 15 (18) sc. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Miss next sc. 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sts. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn. 33 (41) sts.
7th row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 13 (16) sc. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Miss next sc. 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sts. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn. 29 (37) sts.
8th row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 11 (14) sc. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Miss next sc. 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sts. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn. 25 (33) sts.
9th row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 8 (12) sc. (Draw up a loop in next sc. Miss next sc) twice. Draw up a loop in next sc. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – sc5tog made. 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sts. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn. 19 (27) sts.
Sew Top seam.
With 2 strands of MC and larger hook, crochet Upper to Sole.

Holly Leaf (make 6).
With A and smaller hook, ch 10. 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in next ch. *(1 hdc. Ch 2. 1 hdc) in next ch. 1 sc in each of next 2 ch. Rep from * once more. (1 sc. Ch 3. 1 sc) in last ch. Do not turn. Work in rem loops of foundation ch: **1 sc in each of next 2 ch. (1 hdc. Ch 2. 1 hdc) in next ch. Rep from ** once more. 1 sc in next ch. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

Berries (make 6).
With B and smaller hook, ch 3. (Yoh and draw up a loop in 3rd ch from hook) 3 times. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook - Bobble made. Fasten off.

Sew 3 Leaves and 3 Bobbles into Cluster. Sew 1 Cluster at top of each Slipper.
