Shetland Chunky - Patchwork Purse (crochet)

Cute patchwork purse in blocks of bold color for fun style. Lots of room to tote everything. Measures approx. 13" x 18" (33 x 45.5 cm). Shown in Patons Shetland Chunky, using 6 mm (US J or 10) crochet hook.

Materials
Patons® Shetland Chunky (100 g / 3.5 oz)
Main Color (MC) (03430 Wine) 1 ball
Contrast A (03532 Deep Red) 1 ball
Contrast B (03242 Dark Sage Green) 1 ball
Contrast C (03608 Mustard) 1 ball
Contrast D (03031 Earthy Brown) 6 balls

Size 6 mm (U.S. J or 10) crochet hook or size needed to obtain tension. Toggle.

Tension
13 sts and 14 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

Instructions
Note: To change color, work to last 2 loops on hook of first color. Draw loop in next color through 2 loops on hook to complete st and proceed in next color.

Front and Back (Make 2 pieces alike)
With MC, ch 9. With D, ch 23. With A, ch 12.
Foundation row: (RS). With A, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each of next 9 ch. With D, 1 sc in each of next 23 ch. With MC, 1 sc in each of next 10 ch. Turn. 43 sc.
Next Foundation row: With MC, ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 2 sc. (Ch 1. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc) 4 times. (With D, ch 1. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc) 11 times. (With A, ch 1. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc) 5 times. 1 sc in last sc. Turn.

Work Chart I to end of chart beg each row with ch 1, and noting side decs will be worked as follows: Draw up a loop in each of first 2 sts. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – sc2tog made.

Side and Handle
With D, ch 8.
1st row: (RS). 1 dc in 4th ch from hook. 1 dc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 6 dc.
2nd row: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc). Miss first dc. 1 dc in next dc and each dc to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row until work fits length to measure down one side, across bottom and up other side of Purse.
Work 11 ins [28 cm] more for Handle, omitting turning ch at end of last row. Fasten off.

Joining Side: Fold Side in half lengthwise. Join D with ss in corner of Side. Ch 1. Working through both thicknesses, work 1 sc in each sc across first and last rows.

Joining Front, Back and Side: Place WS of Front and Side Section facing each other, placing seam of Side at center of bottom.
1st rnd: (RS). Join D with ss in left top corner of outer edge of Front. Ch 1. Working through both thicknesses, work 1 sc in each st down to bottom, across bottom, up to top of outer edge of Front and along side of Handle. Join with ss to first sc.
2nd rnd: Working from left to right instead of from right to left, as usual, work 1 sc in each sc around for reverse sc. Join with ss to first sc. Fasten off.
Rep for opposite side.

With RS of work facing, join D with ss to top right corner of inner edge of Front. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as last ss. Work 1 row of sc evenly along to opposite corner.
Next row: Working from left to right instead of from right to left, as usual, work 1 sc in each sc for reverse sc. Fasten off.
Rep for opposite side.

Toggle loop: With D, ch 16. Fasten off. Sew to inner edge of Back to form a loop. Sew toggle on Front to correspond.
