Sizes 4 mm (U.S. 6) and 4½ mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension. Size 4 mm (U.S. 6) circular knitting needle 16 ins [41.5cm] long. Cable needle. 1 st holder. Button.

TENSION
20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

STITCH GLOSSARY
C6B
= slip next 3 sts onto a cable needle and leave at back of work. K3, then K3 from cable needle.
C6F = slip next 3 sts onto a cable needle and leave at front of work. K3, then K3 from cable needle.

INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).

FRONT
**With smaller needles, cast on 90 (94-98-102-106) sts.
1st row: (RS). K2. *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P2. *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows (K2. P2) ribbing 3 times more, inc 6 sts evenly across last row. 96 (100-104-108-112) sts.

Change to larger needles and proceed in pat as follows:
1st row: (RS). K2 (4-5-6-8). Work 1st row of Panel Pat A across next 29 sts. K34 (34-36-38-38). Work 1st row Panel Pat B across next 29 sts. Knit to end of row.
2nd row: P2 (4-5-6-8). Work 2nd row of Panel Pat B across next 29 sts. P34 (34-36-38-38). Work 2nd row Panel Pat A across next 29 sts. Purl to end of row.
Panel Pats A and B are now in position.

Cont in pat until work from beg measures 16½ ins [42 cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape armholes: Keeping cont of pat, cast off 5 (6-7-7-8) sts beg next 2 rows. 86 (88-90-94-96) sts.
Dec 1 st at each end of needle on next and following alt rows 4 (5-5-6-7) times more. 76 (76-78-80-80) sts.**
Work 1 (1-1-1-3) row(s) even in pat.

Divide for Opening: Next row: (RS). Pat across 38 (38-39-40-40) sts. Turn. Leave rem sts on a spare needle.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures 5 (-5½-6-6½) ins [12.5 (14-14-15-16.5) cm], ending with WS facing for next row.

Shape neck: Next row: Cast off 9 (9- 10-11-11) sts. Pat to end of row.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 7 rows, then on following alt rows twice. 20 sts.

Shape back neck: Next row: Pat across 22 sts (neck edge). Turn. Leave rem sts on a spare needle.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows. 20 sts.
Work 1 row even in pat.

Shape shoulder: Cast off 10 sts beg next and following alt row. With RS of work facing, slip next 32 (32-34-36-36) sts onto a st holder. Join yarn to rem sts and pat to end of row.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows. 20 sts.
Work 2 rows even in pat.

Shape shoulder: Cast off 10 sts beg next and following alt row.

SLEEVES
With larger needles, cast on 66 (66- 70-70-70) sts.
Work 8 rows in (K2. P2) ribbing, as given for Front, inc 5 (5-3-3-3) sts evenly across last row. 71 (71-73-73- 73) sts.

Proceed in pat as follows: 1st row: (RS). K21 (21-22-22-22). Work 1st row of Panel Pat A across next 29 sts. Knit to end of row.
2nd row: P21 (21-22-22-22). Work 2nd row of Panel Pat A across next 29 sts. Purl to end of row.
Panel Pat is now in position.

Cont even in pat until Sleeve from beg measures 3 ins [8 cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Keeping cont of pat, dec 1 st each end of needle on next and following 8th (10th-12th-10th-12th) rows until there are 59 (61-61-63-65) sts.
Cont even in pat until Sleeve from beg measures 10 (10½-10½-11-11) ins [25.5 (26.5-26.5-28-28) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Keeping cont of pat, inc 1 st each end of needle on next and following 10th (10th-10th-12th-12th) rows until there are 67 (69-69-71-73) sts.
Cont even in pat until Sleeve from beg measures 17½ (18-18½-19-19) ins [44.5 (45.5-47-48-48) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape top: Keeping cont of pat, cast off 2 (3-4-4-4) sts beg next 2 rows. 63 (63-61-63-65) sts. Dec 1 st at each end of needle on next and following alt rows until there are 53 (45-41-41-39) sts, then dec 1 st each end of needle on every row until there are 13 (13-13-15-15) sts. Cast off.

FINISHING
Pin garment pieces to measurements and cover with a damp cloth, leaving cloth to dry.
Sew shoulder seams. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves.

Neckband: With RS of work facing and circular needle, pick up and knit 28 sts up right front neck edge and 5 sts down right back neck edge. K32 (32-34-36-36) from Back st holder. Pick up and knit 5 sts up left back neck edge and 28 sts down left front neck edge. 98 (98-100-102- 102) sts.
Working back and forth across needle in rows, beg with a knit row, work 6 rows in reverse stocking st. Cast off knitways (WS). Place markers on side edges of neckband 3 rows down from cast off edge on each end.

Placket Edging: With RS of work facing and smaller needles, pick up and knit 52 sts along placket opening between markers on Neckband.
Next row: (WS). K2. Turn. Cast on 3 sts. Turn. Knit to end of row. Cast off purlways.

Fold Neckband in half to WS at markers and sew in position. Sew button to correspond to loop.
