With A, work 4 rows.
With B, work 4 rows.

1st row: (RS). K2. *Sl1. K1. psso. (yfwd) twice. K2tog. K2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P4. *K1. P5. Rep from * to last 4 sts. K1. P3.
Last 2 rows form Ridge Pat. First 2 rows of Stripe Pat are complete.
Cont in Ridge Pat and work a further 6 rows in Stripe Pat.
Keeping cont of pat, inc 1 st each end of needle on next and every following alt row until there are 78 (84-92-96-108-128) sts, then every following 4th
row until there are 106 (110-116-120-130-140) sts, taking inc sts into pat.
Work 5 rows even in pat.

Cast on 25 (29-32-36-37-44) sts, beg next 2 rows. 156 (168-180-192-204-228) sts.
Next row: (RS). K4. Pat to last 2 sts. K2.
Cont in pat, working 2 sts at each end in garter st (knit every row) until work measures 2½ (3-3½-4- 5¼-7) ins [6 (7.5-9-10-13-18) cm], ending with a WS row.

Leave rem sts on a spare needle.
