Vest (Natural) 6 (7-7-8) balls

Sizes 3 mm (U.S. C or 2) and 3.5 mm (U.S. E or 4) crochet hooks or size needed to obtain tension.

TENSION
26 sts and 9 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in Flowers Pat with larger hook.

INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).
Note: Body is worked in one piece to armholes.
BODY
With larger hook and MC, ch 235 (255-275- 295).
Foundation row: (RS). 1 dc in 5th ch from hook (turning ch counts as 1 dc and ch-1 sp).

Sew shoulder seams.
Armhole Edging:With RS of work facing and smaller hook, join MC with sl st at shoulder. Ch 1. Work 90 (96-96-102) sc evenly around armhole edge. Join with sl st to first sc.
Next rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc.
Next rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. *Ch 3. Miss next 2 sc. (Yoh and draw up a loop. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times in next sc.
Yoh and draw through all loops on hook - dc3tog cluster made. Ch 3.Miss next 2 sc. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * around ending with: join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
Bottom Edging: With RS of work facing and smaller hook, join MC with sl st at corner of Left Front. Ch 1. Work 1 row of sc evenly across lower edge. Ch 1. Do not turn.
Next row:Working from left to right instead of from right to left, as usual, work 1 reverse sc in each sc across. Fasten off.
Neck Edging: With RS of work facing and smaller, join MC with sl st at corner of Bottom Edging on Right Front. Ch 1.Work 111 (114- 120-120) sc evenly up Right Front edge, 31 (37-37-43) sc across back neck edge and 111 (114-120-120) sc down Left Front edge. 253 (265-277-283) sc. Turn.
Place markers for 5 buttonholes on Right Front edge having bottom button 1 inch [2.5 cm] above lower edge, top button at same level asbeg of armhole shaping and rem 3 buttons spaced evenly between.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc across. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc across to first buttonhole marker. *Ch 2. Miss next 2 sc. 1 sc in each sc to next buttonhole marker. Rep from * 3 times more. Ch 2. Miss next 2 sc. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. *1 sc in each sc to next ch-2 sp. 2 sc in next ch-2 sp. Rep from * 4 times more. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. *Ch 3. Miss next 2 sc. Dc3tog cluster in next sc. Ch 3.Miss next 2 sc. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * to end of row. Fasten off.

Buttons: (Make 5).
With smaller hook, ch 2, leaving an end approx 5 ins [12.5 cm] long at beg of chain.
1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st in first sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. 2 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st in first sc.
3rd rnd: Ch 1. *Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sc. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – sc2tog made. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first st. Fasten off, leaving an end approx 5 ins [12.5 cm] long.
Thread end through tapestry needle. Stuff end at beg of chain into button.
Thread end on needle through rem 6 sts and draw up tightly. Sew in position to Left Front to correspond to buttonhole’s.
