TENSION
24 sts and 32 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

ABBREVIATIONS
M1 = Make 1 st by picking up horizontal loop lying before next st and knitting into back of loop.

INSTRUCTIONS
Note: When working with more than one color within a row, wind small balls of the colors to be used, one for each separate area of color in the design. Start new colors at appropriate points. To change colors, twist the two colors around each other where they meet, on WS, to avoid a hole.
SCHOOL BUS
Front and Sides
With MC, cast on 134 sts.
Proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures 3� ins [9.5 cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Sew back side seams.
Bottom
With MC, cast on 26 sts. Proceed in stocking st until work measures same length as Sides of Bus, ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off.
Sew 3 sides of Bottom and Bus tog, leave one side open for stuffing.
Stuff Bus firmly. Sew rem side.

Wheel (make 4).
Tire: With B, cast on 25 sts.
Work 2 rows in stocking st.
Next row: (RS). K1. *(Inc 1 st in next st) twice. K1. Rep from * to end of row. 41 sts.
Next row: Purl.
Beg with a purl row, work 7 rows in reverse stocking st, ending with WS facing for next row.
Next row: Purl.
Next row: K1. *(K2tog) twice. K1.
Rep from * to end of row. 25 sts.
Next row: Purl.
Next row: Knit. Cast off purlwise.
Sew cast on and cast off edges tog.
Stuff round edges of wheel firmly.
Hub Cap
With A, cast on 8 sts.
1st row: (RS). Knit.
2nd and alt rows: Purl.
3rd row: K1. (Inc 1 st in next st) 7 times. 15 sts.
5th row: K1. *Inc 1 st in next st. K1.
Rep from * to end of row. 22 sts.
6th row: Purl.
Beg with a purl row, work 5 rows in reverse stocking st, ending with WS facing for next row.

Stuff Hub Cap firmly.
Gather round cast on sts, pull up tightly and fasten off, then gather same way around cast off sts and fasten off.
Assemble Wheel and Hub Cap:
Push the Hub Cap into the center of tire – it should fit quite tightly.
With C, sew pieces tog matching these positions, working all around the wheel as illustrated.
Pocket (make 2)
With MC, cast on 30 sts.
Knit 9 rows (garter st), noting that first row is WS.
With B, knit 2 rows.
With MC, knit 2 rows.
With B, knit 2 rows.
With MC, knit 11 rows. Cast off knitwise.
Sew pockets in position and stitch them at middle of each side of Bus as illustrated. Sew Wheels to Bus as illustrated.
Front Panel
With B, cast on 25 sts.
Knit 3 rows, noting that 1st row is WS.
Next 2 rows: Cast off 8 sts. Knit to end of row. 9 sts. With MC, knit 4 rows.
** With B, knit 2 rows.
With MC, knit 2 rows. **
Rep from ** to ** once more.
With B, knit 2 rows.
Next row: With MC, knit. Cast off knitwise (WS).
Front Lights (make 2)
With B, cast on 8 sts.
1st row: (WS). Knit.
2nd row: With H, knit.
3rd row: Purl.
4th row: (K2tog) 4 times. 4 sts.
Break yarn leaving a long end and thread through rem sts. Fasten securely.
Sew Front Panel and Front Lights in position as illustrated.

DOLL (Make 2 sides alike)
**With E, cast on 3 sts.
Work 2 rows in stocking st.
Proceed as follows:
1st row: K1. M1. K1. M1. K1. 5 sts.
2nd and alt rows: Purl.
3rd row: K1. M1. K3. M1. K1. 7 sts.
5th row: K1. M1. K5. M1. K1. 9 sts.
With F, work 15 rows even in stocking st.
Shape arms: Cast on 7 sts beg next 2 rows. 23 sts.
Work 7 rows even in stocking st.
Cast off 9 sts beg next 2 rows. 5 sts. Break F.
Next row: (WS). With G, inc 1 st in first st. (Inc 1 st in next st) 4 times. 10 sts.
Work 8 rows even in stocking st.
Next row: (RS). Sl1. K1. psso. (K2. K2tog) twice. 7 sts.
Next row: P2tog. P3. P2togtbl.
Next row: Sl1. K1. psso. K1. K2tog.
Next row: Sl1. K2tog. psso. Fasten off.**
For 2nd doll work from ** to ** as given before substituting F for E and E for F.
For 3rd doll work from ** to ** as given before substituting D for E and H for F.
For 4th doll work from ** to ** as given before substituting H for E and D for F.
Sew both sides of doll tog, leaving an opening for stuffing. Stuff doll.
Sew opening closed. Wind G 3 times around neck. Fasten off.
With B, embroider eyes and with D embroider mouth as illustrated.
With crochet hook and desired color, fringe hair as illustrated, or embroider hair using French Knots or straight stitch leaving loops loose.
