MATERIALS
Patons® Kroy Socks
(50 g/1.75 oz)
Sizes
2-4: 2 balls
6-8: 2 balls
10-12: 2 balls

Set of four 2¾ mm (U.S. 2) double pointed knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension.

TENSION
32 sts and 44 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).
Cast on 48 (54-60) sts loosely. Divide into 16 (18-20) sts on 3 needles. Join in rnd, placing a marker on first st.
Knit 10 rnds.
Next rnd: (Picot rnd). *yfwd. K2tog.
Rep from * around.
Knit 10 rnds.
Proceed in Lace Pat as follows:
1st rnd: Knit.
2nd rnd: *Sl1. K1. psso. K2. yfwd. K2. Rep from * around.
3rd to 6th rnds: As 1st and 2nd rnds twice more.
7th rnd: Knit.
8th rnd: *K2. yfwd. K2. K2tog. Rep from * around.
9th to 12th rnds: As 7th and 8th rnds twice more.
These 12 rnds form Lace Pat.
Cont in Lace Pat until work from beg measures 5 (6-7) ins [12.5 (15-18) cm], ending with 3rd needle.
Arrange heel sts: Slip 4 (6-8) sts from end of 1st needle onto beg of 2nd needle and 4 (6-8) sts from beg of 3rd needle onto end of 2nd needle. 12 sts on 1st needle, 24 (30-36) sts on 2nd needle, and 12 sts on 3rd needle.
Divide the 24 (30-36) sts on 2nd needle onto 2 needles and leave for instep.
Knit the 12 sts off 1st needle onto end of 3rd needle.
Working on these 24 sts, proceed as follows:
Next row: (WS). K1. P10. P2tog. P10. K1. 23 sts.
Make Heel: 1st row: *K1. Sl1. Rep from * to last st. K1.
2nd row: K1. Purl to last st. K1.
Rep these 2 rows for 1¾ (2-2¼) ins [4.5 (5-5.5) cm], ending with 1st row.
Shape Heel: 1st row: P11. P2tog. P1. Turn.
2nd row: K3. Sl1. K1. psso. K1. Turn.
3rd row: P4. P2tog. P1. Turn.
4th row: K5. Sl1. K1. psso. K1. Turn.
5th row: P6. P2tog. P1. Turn.
6th row: K7. Sl1. K1. psso. K1. Turn.
7th row: P8. P2tog. P1. Turn.
8th row: K9. Sl1. K1. psso. K1. Turn.
9th row: P10. P2tog. P1. Turn.
10th row: K11. Sl1. K1. psso. K1. Turn. 13 sts.
Make instep: Slip 24 (30-36) sts onto one needle.
1st needle: With RS of work facing and using the heel needle, pick up and knit 11 (13-15) sts along side of heel.
2nd needle: Pat across instep sts.
3rd needle: Pick up and knit 11 (13- 15) sts along other side of heel and K6 from 1st needle.
Sts are now divided as follows:
1st needle: 18 (20-22) sts, 2nd needle: 24 (30-36) sts, 3rd needle: 17 (19-21) sts.
1st rnd: 1st needle: Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1. 2nd needle: Work in pat. 3rd needle: K1. Sl1. K1. psso. Knit to end of needle.
2nd rnd: 1st needle: Knit. 2nd needle:Work in pat. 3rd needle: Knit.
Rep these 2 rnds to 13 (14-13) sts on 1st needle, 24 (30-36) sts on 2nd needle and 12 (13-12) sts on 3rd needle. 49 (57-61) sts.
Keeping 2nd needle in pat, cont even until work from picked up row measures 4 (-5) ins [10 (12- 12.5) cm].
Next rnd: 1st needle: K2tog. Knit to end of needle. 2nd needle: Work in pat. 3rd needle: Knit. 48 (56-60) sts.

Sizes 6-8 and 10-12 only: Rearrange sts as follows: Slip (1-3) st(s) from beg of 2nd needle onto end of 1st needle.
Slip (1-3) st(s) from end of 2nd needle onto beg of 3rd needle.

All Sizes: 12 (14-15) sts on 1st needle, 24 (28-30) sts on 2nd needle and 12 (14-15) sts on 3rd needle.
Shape toe: 1st rnd: 1st needle: Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1. 2nd needle: K1. Sl1. K1. psso. Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1. 3rd needle: K1. Sl1. K1. psso. Knit to end of needle.
2nd rnd: Knit.
Rep these 2 rnds to 16 (20-22) sts in rnd. Knit the sts of 1st needle onto end of 3rd needle. Break yarn, leaving an end 8 ins [20.5 cm] long. Graft 2 sets of 8 (10-11) sts tog.
Fold top of Sock along Picot row to WS and sew in position.
