Sizes 4 mm (U.S. 6) and 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension. Size 4 mm (U.S. 6) circular knitting needle 36 ins [90 cm] long. One st holder. 6 buttons.

INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessar y for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).

BACK
With MC and smaller needles cast on 90 (98-110-118) sts.
1st row: (RS). K2. *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P2. *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep these 2 rows (K2. P2) ribbing for 1½ ins [4 cm] ending on a 2nd row and inc 3 (3-1-3) sts evenly across last row. 93 (101-111-121) sts.
Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures 15½ ins [39.5 cm] ending with RS facing for next row.
Armhole shaping: Cast off 5 (6-8-9) sts beg next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each end of needle on next and following 4 (5-6- 8) alt rows. 73 (77-81-85) sts.
Cont even until armhole measures 9½ (10-10½-11) ins [24 (25.5-26.5-28) cm] ending with RS facing for next row.
Shoulder shaping: Cast off 7 (7-7-8)
sts beg next 4 rows, then 6 (7-8-8) sts
beg following 2 rows. Leave rem 33 (35-37-37) sts on a st holder.

LEFT FRONT
With MC and smaller needles cast on 47 (51-55-59) sts.
1st row: (RS). K2. *P2. K2. Rep from * to last st. K1.
2nd row: K1. *P2. K2. Rep from * to last 2 sts. P2.
Rep these 2 rows ribbing for 1½ ins [4 cm] ending on a 2nd row and dec 1 (1-0-inc 1) st in center of last row. 46 (50-55-60) sts.
Change to larger needles and proceed in pat as follows:
With A, work 2 rows stocking st.
With B, work 2 rows stocking st.
With MC, work 2 rows stocking st.
These 6 rows form stripe pat.
Cont in stripe pat until work from beg measures same length as Back to beg of armhole shaping ending with RS facing for next row.
Ar mhole shaping: Keeping cont of pat, cast off 5 (6-8-9) sts beg next row.
Work 1 row even in pat.
Dec 1 st at beg of next and following 0 (0-1-2) alt rows. 40 (43-45-48) sts.
Work 1 row even in pat.
Front shaping: Next row: Work 2tog. Pat to last 2 sts. Work 2tog (front edge).
Work 1 row even in pat.
Rep last 2 rows 3 (4-4-5) times more. 32 (33-35-36) sts.

Sizes L and XL only: Dec 1 st at front edge only on next and following (1-0) alt row. (33-35) sts.

All sizes: Dec 1 st at front edge only on following 4th rows from previous dec until there are 20 (21-22-24) sts.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures same length as Back to beg of shoulder shaping ending with RS facing for next row.
Shoulder shaping: Cast off 7 (7-7-8) sts beg next and following alt row. Work 1 row even. Cast off rem 6 (7-8-8) sts.

RIGHT FRONT
With MC and smaller needles cast on 47 (51-55-59) sts.
1st row: (RS). K3. *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: *P2. K2. Rep from * to last 3 sts. P2. K1.
Rep these 2 rows ribbing for 1½ ins [4 cm] ending on a 2nd row and dec 1 (1-0-inc 1) st in center of last row. 46 (50-55-60) sts.
Change to larger needles and proceed in stripe pat as given for Left Front until work from beg measures same length as Back to beg of armhole shaping ending with WS facing for next row.
Armhole shaping: Keeping cont of pat, cast off 5 (6-8-9) sts beg next row.
Dec 1 st at end of next and following 0 (0-1-2) alt rows. 40 (43-45-48) sts.
Work 1 row even in pat.
Front shaping: Next row: Work 2tog (front edge). Pat to last 2 sts. Work 2tog.
Work 1 row even in pat.
Rep last 2 rows 3 (4-4-5) times more. 32 (33-35-36) sts.

Sizes L and XL only: Dec 1 st at front edge only on next and following (1-0) alt row. (33-35) sts.

All sizes: Dec 1 st at front edge only on following 4th rows from previous dec until there are 20 (21-22-24) sts.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures same length as Back to beg of shoulder shaping ending with WS facing for next row.
Shoulder shaping: Cast off 7 (7-7-8) sts beg next and following alt row. Work 1 row even. Cast off rem 6 (7-8-8) sts.

FINISHING
Pin garment pieces to measurements and press lightly with a damp cloth leaving to dry on garment pieces.
Armbands: Sew shoulder seams. With RS of work facing, MC and smaller needles pick up and knit 102 (110-114- 118) sts evenly along armhole edge. Beg and ending on a 2nd row, work 1¼ ins [3 cm] in (K2. P2) ribbing as given for Back. Cast off in ribbing.
Button and Buttonhole Band: With RS of work facing, MC and circular needle, pick up and knit 95 (100-100- 105) sts up Right Front edge to first front dec and 60 (63-65-69) sts up Right Front neck edge. Knit across 33 (35-37-37) sts from back st holder dec 1 st at center. Pick up and knit 60 (63- 65-69) sts down Left Front neck edge to first front dec and 95 (100-100-105) sts down Left Front edge. 342 (360- 366-384) sts. Do not join. Working back and forth across needle, proceed as follows:
Beg on a 2nd row, work 3 rows in (K2. P2) ribbing as given for Back.
Her Version: 4th row: (RS). Rib across 3 sts. *Cast off 2 sts. Rib across 16 (17-17-18) sts (including st on needle after cast off ). Rep from * 4 times more. Cast off 2 sts. Rib to end of row.
His Version: 4th row: (RS). Rib across 247 (260-266-279) sts. *Cast off 2 sts. Rib across 16 (17-17-18) sts (including st on needle after cast off ). Rep from * 4 times more. Cast off 2 sts. Rib to end of row.
Both Versions: 5th row: Rib, casting on 2 sts over cast off sts.
Work a further 3 rows ribbing. Cast off in ribbing.
Sew side seams. Sew buttons to correspond to buttonholes.
