Sizes 4 mm (U.S. 6) and 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles. Size 4 mm (U.S. 6) circular knitting needle 24 ins [60 cm] long and pair of size 4 mm (U.S. 6) doublepointed needles or size needed to obtain tension. 2 st holders. Separating zipper.

TENSION
21½sts and 28 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in pat.

INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).

BACK
With smaller needles and MC, cast on 100 (105-112-119-130) sts.
Beg with a purl row, proceed in reverse stocking st for 12 rows.
Next row: (RS). *Pick up st from cast on row. Knit next st from needle and picked up st tog. Rep from * to end of row.
Next row: Purl, inc 7 (9-9-9-12) sts evenly across. 107 (114-121- 128-142) sts.
Change to larger needles and proceed in pat as follows:
1st row: (RS). K2. *P2. K1. P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P2. *(K1. P1) twice. K1. P2. Rep from * to end of row.
These 2 rows form pat.
Cont in pat until work from folded lower edge measures 16½ (17- 17½-17½-17½) ins [42 (43-44.5-44.5-44.5) cm] ending with RS facing for next row.
Armhole shaping: Keeping cont of pat, cast off 9 (9-11-11-11) sts beg next 2 rows. 89 (96-99-106- 120) sts.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures 9½ (10-10-10½-11) ins [24 (25.5-25.5-26.5-28) cm] ending with RS facing for next row.
Shoulder shaping: Keeping cont of pat, cast off 13 (14-14-16-19) sts beg next 2 rows, then 13 (14- 15-16-20) sts beg following 2 rows. Cast off rem 37 (40-41-42- 42) sts.
Pocket Lining (make 2)
With MC and larger needles, cast on 32 sts and work 8 rows in stocking st thus ending with RS facing for next row. Leave these sts on a st holder.

LEFT FRONT
With smaller needles and MC, cast on 47 (54-57-61-64) sts.
Beg with a purl row, proceed in reverse stocking st for 8 rows.
Next row: (RS). (Casing opening). Purl to last 6 sts. Cast off 2 sts. Purl to end of row.
Next row: Knit, casting on 2 sts over cast off sts.

SLEEVES
With smaller needles and MC, cast on 55 (55-55-60-60) sts.
Beg with a purl row, proceed in reverse stocking st for 12 rows.
Next row: (RS). *Pick up st from cast on row. Knit next st from needle and picked up st tog. Rep from * to end of row.
Next row: Purl, inc 3 (3-3-5-5) sts evenly across. 58 (58-58-65-65) sts.
Change to larger needles and proceed in pat as given for Back: Inc 1 st at each end of 3rd and every following 4th row until there are 88 (94-90-97-99) sts, then every 6th row to 102 (108-108-113-117) sts, taking inc sts into pat.
Cont even in pat until work from folded lower edge measures 19 (19½-20-20½-21) ins [48 (49.5- 51-52-53.5) cm] ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off in pat.
Place markers on side edges of sleeves 1¾ (1¾-2¼-2¼-2¼) ins [4.5 (4.5-5.5-5.5-5.5) cm] down from cast off edge.

HOOD
Left Half: With MC and larger needles cast on 61 sts.
Next row: (WS). Purl.
Proceed in pat as follows:
1st row: *P2. K1. P2. K2. Rep from * to last 5 sts. P2. K1. P2.
2nd row: *(K1. P1) twice. K1. P2. Rep from * to last 5 sts. (K1. P1) twice. K1.
These 2 rows form pat.
Cont in pat for 8 ins [20.5 cm] ending with RS facing for next row.
***Dec 1 st beg next and following alt rows 11 times more. 49 sts.
Work 1 row even. Cast off 5 sts beg next and following alt rows 4 times more. Work 1 row even. Cast off rem 24 sts.***
Right Half: With MC and larger needles cast on 61 sts. Proceed in pat as given for Left Half for 8 ins [20.5 cm] ending with WS facing for next row.
Work from *** to *** as given for Left Half.
Hood Casing: Sew Right and Left halves of Hood tog. With RS of work facing, MC and circular needle pick up and knit 120 sts evenly around hood opening. Do not join. Working back and forth across needle proceed as follows: Beg with a knit row, work 3 rows in reverse stocking st.
Next row: (RS). (Casing opening). P4. Cast off 2 sts. Purl to last 6 sts. Cast off 2 sts. Purl to end of row.
Next row: Knit, casting on 2 sts over cast off sts.
Cont working in reverse stocking st for 7 more rows ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off. Fold to inside of Hood to form casing and sew in position.

FINISHING
Pin garment pieces to measurements and cover with a damp cloth allowing cloth to dry.
Pocket edging: With RS of work facing and A, pick up and knit 30 sts along pocket opening.
Next row: Knit. Cast off purlwise.
Sew pocket linings in position on WS. Sew shoulder seams. Sew Hood to neck edge.
Zipper edging: With RS of work facing, A and smaller needles, pick up and knit 117 (120-125- 127-130) sts along Right Front edge.
Next row: Purl. Cast off purlwise (RS).
Rep for Left Front.
Cord: (make 2). With A and 2 double-pointed needles cast on 3 sts. K3. *Slide sts to other end of needle without turning work. K3. Rep from * until first cord measures 64 ins [162.5 cm] and second cord measures 34 ins [86.5 cm]. Cast off. Thread second cord through hood casing opening and first cord through bottom casing opening. Tie a knot at each end of cord.
Sew in sleeves placing rows above markers along cast off sts of front and back to form square armholes. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew zipper in position under edging.
