MEASUREMENTS
Scarf: Approx 6 x 60 ins [15 x 152.5 cm; 110 m / 121 yds].
Hat: One size to fit average Lady’s head.

MATERIALS
Patons® Shetland Chunky
(100 g/3.5 oz)
Contrast A: 03008 (Aran) 2 balls
Contrast B: 03022 (Taupe) 2 balls
Contrast C: 03031 (Earthy Brown) 2 balls

Size 10 mm (U.S. 15) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.

GAUGE: 11 sts and 14 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st with two strands of yarn tog

INSTRUCTIONS
Note
Hat and Scarf are worked with 2 strands of yarn held tog throughout.
Stripe Pat
2 strands A: 7 rows.
1 strand A and 1 strand B: 7 rows.
2 strands B: 7 rows.
1 strand B and 1 strand C: 7 rows.
2 strands C: 7 rows.
1 strand C and 1 strand A: 7 rows.
These 42 rows form Stripe Pat.

SCARF: With 2 strands of A, cast on 17 sts.
1st row: (WS). Knit.
2nd row: K1. *P1. K1Below. Rep from * to last 2 sts. P1. K1.
These 2 rows form pat.
Keeping cont of Stripe Pat, cont in pat until Scarf measures 60 ins [152.5 cm], ending with a RS row. Cast off knitwise (WS).
Fringe: Cut lengths of A, B and C 14 ins [35.5 cm] long. Taking 2 strands of A, B and C tog, knot into fringe along cast on and cast off edges as shown in picture. Trim fringe evenly.

HAT: With 2 strands of A, cast on 48 sts.
Work 4 rows in (K1. P1) ribbing.
Next row: (RS). K1. *M1. K2. Rep from * to last st. M1. K1. 72 sts.
Proceed in pat as follows:
1st row: (WS). Knit.
2nd row: K1. *P1. K1Below. Rep from * to last st. P1.
These 2 rows form pat. Keeping cont of Stripe Pat, rep last 2 rows for 5 ins [12.5 cm], ending with a RS row.
Shape crown: 1st row: (WS). K3. *Sl1. K2tog. psso. K6. Rep from * to last 6 sts. Sl1. K2tog. psso. K3. 56 sts.
2nd and alt rows: K1. *P1. K1Below. Rep from * to last st. P1.
(Note – when working K1Below into a st that has been dec on previous row, insert needle into all sts to avoid dropped sts).
3rd row: K2. *Sl1. K2tog. psso. K4. Rep from * to last 5 sts. Sl1. K2tog. psso. K2. 40 sts.
5th row: K1. *Sl1. K2tog. psso. K2. Rep from * to last 4 sts. Sl1. K2tog. psso. K1. 24 sts.
7th row: *Sl1. K2tog. psso. Rep from * to end of row. 8 sts. Break yarn, leaving a long end. Draw through all sts tightly. Fasten securely.
Sew back seam.
Pom-pom: Wind A, B and C tog around 4 fingers 50 times. Tie tightly in the middle and leave a long end for attaching to Hat. Cut loops at both ends and trim to smooth round shape. Sew to top of Hat.
